1. Typos

According to Boc, spelling and punctuation errors occur to him all the time. People who devote enough time to writing their resumes probably don’t make typos because they read the text several times before submitting. To avoid stupid mistakes, Bock advises reading your resume from the bottom up - this will help you better focus on each sentence. You can also ask to re-read the resume of your friends or acquaintances. “Typos are deadly because employers interpret them as a lack of attention to detail and an inability to care about quality,” says Bock.
2. Resume length

It is incorrect if your resume consists of more than two pages. According to Bok, it will be a good rule to devote one page for every 10 years of your work experience. Think about the fact that the main goal of a resume is to get an invitation to an interview, and few people are interested in the story of your life or unsuccessful love. If your resume includes only important, well-packaged information, this shows your potential employer that you can prioritize and synthesize information.

3. Complex formatting

If you want your resume to be easily and clearly read, then do not use fancy fonts and artistic touches. Remember some basic rules: the font size must be at least 10 points, the margins must be 0.5 inches (1.27 cm), keep the same spacing between the lines, carefully align the tables, and remember to include your name and contact information on each page . It is best to use black text on a white background. If possible, check how the text looks in Word and Google Docs, then add it as an attachment to the letter and open the preview. Saving your resume to PDF is also a good option.
4. Disclosure of confidential information about your past employer

Bock writes that between 5% and 10% of resumes contain confidential information about the applicant’s past employer. This is a clear sign that candidates may reveal Google’s trade secrets if they suddenly decide to change jobs. “There is an internal conflict between preserving the secrets of your previous employer and telling the new about your strengths and achievements in your past work,” Bok writes. According to him, many try to cheat and thereby make mistakes - for example, one of the candidates wrote that he advised a large company that is developing software in Redmond, Washington. He did not directly indicate that it was Microsoft, but from his words it was obvious.
5. Explicit lie

You should never lie to a resume. People often slightly exaggerate their seniority, the average mark at the institute, or ascribe to themselves an achievement that you did not accomplish - but this is strictly forbidden. Even if you are hired, you can easily fly out of it after an additional check or a simple search by your last name on Google, which will reveal the lie.
